What is acne anyway?
Acne is more than just annoying, embarrassing, and persistent pimples. It’s a skin condition that affects millions (no fair!). It can be mild (a few pimples and blemishes here and there), and it can be severe (all-over with scarring). It can be anywhere in between.
Arm yourself with knowledge, and you’ll be able to reduce instances of acne and get on with other more fun and exciting things in your life!
How does acne occur?
There are two things that cause acne to show up:
When your pores are blocked—either by dead skin cells or something called “sebum.” Sebum is an oily substance that your glands create. And it loves to fill up pores.
Now, don’t get angry at sebum. It has a good purpose too: it keeps your skin from drying out. But sometimes it ends up in the wrong place—in your pores, stuck to dead skin cells.
Acne also shows up when bacteria enter your pores and multiply. Redness, swelling, and pus are the first signs of bacterial invasion!
